Alternate side parking rules is twice a week

Starting July 5, NYC will restore the alternate side parking to twice a week from once a week. This was announced by the new incoming DSNY Commissioner. It was suspended in 2020. Vehicles can park on the other side including double parking during the mechanical broom truck hours.


NYC Is adding more seats in its gifted and talented school program

The NYC Mayor stated to the media today, There will be a gifted and talented program in every school district in New York City. We are giving every child in every zip code a chance that has been denied too often. The school chancellor stated every single kid will have access that is close to home. Schools will screen all pre-kindergarten students for gifted behavior based on total academic performance, rather than relying on a single test for the four-year-old students. Applications for both programs will open on May 31.


NYS budget added for three new casinos

The NYS budget has licensing for up to three new casinos that will start immediately. The budget has been passed in the state. The owners of the Empire City Casino in Yonkers and Resorts World New York City in Jamaica, Queens can start looking toward expansion. Those Class II facilities are now in line for a shiny, new Class III license. 


NYC to have the largest car free Earth Day

New York City with Times Square announced community partners and elected officials to announce programming for the fifth annual car free Earth Day to be celebrated this year on Saturday, April 23rd. Earth Day will be globally observed on Friday, April 22nd. First launched in 2016, Car free Earth Day originally had converted select Manhattan streets into public plazas and car free streets for pedestrians, cyclists, and local businesses.
